Tivnu: Building Justice

Tivnu runs the first Jewish gap year that takes place in the United States as well as the only one to focus on issues of housing and homelessness.
Location: Portland , Oregon
Year founded: 2011

With a focus on issues of shelter and other basic human needs, Tivnu: Building Justice mobilizes the Jewish community—and engages and serves the wider community—through hands-on construction projects, education, and advocacy. Our model braids together hands-on construction training; work on specific projects with affordable-housing and other organizations like Habitat for Humanity; social advocacy in collaboration with groups like Street Roots and Sisters of the Road; and Jewish learning and living.
