The Sefaria Project

Sefaria will revolutionize Jewish learning and enhance Jewish literacy and engagement by building a free and universally accessible living library of Jewish texts and their interconnections, in Hebrew and in translation.

Location: New York , NY
Year founded: 2013

Description

Before the Internet came the printing press. Before the printing press, there were handwritten scrolls. Before that, we relied on oral traditions passed down from teacher to student. Each new medium democratized knowledge further, bringing more and more people into the great conversations of Jewish learning. We are the generation charged with shepherding the Torah online — bringing it from print to digital — in a way that can expand its reach and impact.

Sefaria will give Jewish texts the beautiful interface they deserve while building an open source, digital infrastructure that will allow all Jewish texts to be accessible, understandable, and reusable for years to come.
