Tzedek America

We are a Jewish Social Justice and Travel "gap year" program based in Los Angeles focusing on leadership and Jewish identity.
Location: Los Angeles , CA
Year founded: 2014

Tzedek America is a national program based in Los Angeles which immerses Jewish high school graduates in social justice, leadership and Jewish identity exploration over nine months in a cross-denominational, pre-college “gap year” setting. Participants define their commitments to making a positive change in the world. In addition to social justice internships, such as working with Jewish Big Brothers and Sisters, National Council for Jewish Women, Grid Alternatives, the Downtown Women’s Center and others, participants will plan and execute national service learning trips, be mentored by Jewish Los Angeles professionals, experience the landscape of Jewish LA through a range of Shabbat and Jewish holiday experiences, and learn practical life and communication skills, all, while living in a communal setting.  The five year vision is to expand the model and have multiple Tzedek America houses in various locations throughout the United States.

We are looking to give scholarships to Jewish teens from a wide spectrum of beliefs, affiliations and ethnic backgrounds.
