American Friends of Jordan River Village

Jordan River Village - Because every child deserves the right to a childhood, we provide ALL seriously ill children in Israel the opportunity to enjoy the magic of camp, at no cost to their families.

Location: New York , NY
Year founded: 2005

The Jordan River Village ("the Village") is a free supportive, and medically-safe camp in Israel for all children living with serious and chronic illnesses, regardless of background, religion, ethnicity, socio-economi level, or physical limitations.  The Village seeks to replace the loneliness and pain of having a serious illness with fund and friendship.

The Village offers camp programming, life any typical summer camp -- arts and crafts, swimming, music, theater, zip lining, and everything in between.  However, unlike a regular summer camp, the Village is open year round, and is specifically for children who suffer from chronic and life threatening illnesses.  The Village is fully equipped not only to welcome these children in a medically sound environment, but to offer them a once in a lifetime opportunity of independence, fun, and inclusivity.  At the Village, children meet and forge friendships with children and staff alike, who have gone through what they are experiencing, and to whom they can relate. For that reason, the session at camp, no matter how many days, has an impact that lasts way beyond.  Children leave with renewed confidence, hope and support.
