Bar-Kayma

An NGO providing mentoring, management tools and organizational framework for Cultural projects, initiatives and platforms in Jerusalem.
Location: Jerusalem , Jerusalem
Year founded: 2006

Description

Our projects includes two Art Galleries (Barbur and Bezalel 7), one music and performance venue (HaMazkeka), a Dance studio (Flamenca), two internet radios (jlm.fm and Raash Hour), and art groups and collectives (Pandora Collective, Jerusalem Street Orchestra, Theatre in the Rough, Starcatcher, Beat Milah and more).

Jerusalemite.org is an online platform for updating and sharing cultural and community events. Since 2002 we have been active in distributing information about cultural events in Jerusalem, at first with a weekly paper (between 2002-2007) and an online website (since 2005). In recent years the website has deteriorated, and we have been working on a new online platform to serve the Jerusalem cultural community.

This unique platform was developed in order to assist independent artists, cultural institutions and community activists to update events and invite locals and visitors, allowing the public to know what cultural events may interest them, to learn about the places, people, collectives and organizations and engaging more public participation in cultural and community landscapes of the city.

My name is Noam Kuzar, I was born and raised in Jerusalem and am general manager of Bar-Kayma NGO. Worked as administrative and productions coordinator for the Jerusalem Season of Culture and as producer of various art and culture initiatives and projects. Since 2004 worked as cameraman, camera assistant, researcher and producer for various films inclusing documentaries for National Geographic, History Channel, Discovery and more.

I have been developing online platforms as a hobby for some time, and 2 years ago started working on this unique platform for collecting and distributing infrmation about cultural events. The project has won the support of the Jerusalem Foundation and is planned to launch as Beta this upcoming summer (2015).

Being in contact with numerous artists, projects and institutions, the lack of a common platform or calendar of events is raised often, our platform ins planned to serve a variety of fields of art and community, as well as multi-lingual, so it is accessible to all factions of Jerusalem's culture and visitors from abroad.

How do you measure the success of your program?

JERUSALEMITE.ORG: Previous projects with the same goals have been very successful in the past, we've issued over 200 weekly papers and other printed materials (maps, monthly event listings etc), and had a website which operated since 2005 with about 30,000 events listed.

Measure of success for new Jerusalemite.org website:

Number of events and information updated in website

Number of visitors and use of website

Affect on audience and community participation in cultural activities

Sustainability
