AVIV of Arizona

AVIV of Arizona - the original LBGT Jewish Chavurah in the Phoenix area
Location: Phoenix , Arizona
Year founded: 2004

AVIV of Arizona is dedicated to fulfilling the religious and social needs of the LGBT Jewish community of Greater Phoenix, Arizona.  We provide monthly religious services and social events held at different locations throughout the area.  Even though we have an LGBT focus, all are welcome to participate.  We have many non-LGBT members who support our efforts.

Our prayer books are over 20 years old and need to be updated to provide more inclusive English language to the liturgy, include more of the currently used songs, and update the Hebrew text to coincide with current Jewish religious service practice.  Many of our current paperback copies are frayed and torn and need replaced. Last year, AVIV used donation funds to revise and reprint our Shabbat prayer book.  We are now seeking funds to revised and reprint our High Holy Day prayer books.

AVIV also wants to reach out the the local community college and university Jewish students who are members of LGBT student groups.  We are seeking funding to print information to be distributed and to sponsor outreach events to these Jewish LGBT students.
