Description

T'ruah brings a moral rabbinic voice to human rights in North America, Israel, and the occupied Palestinian territories. We harness the power of our network of 1800 rabbis and cantors, along with their communities, to protecting the life and dignity of all people. We are changing the definition of "rabbi" such that everyone knows that the job of a rabbi is to be a moral leader. A short taste of our work: T'ruah's #tomato rabbis include more than fifty rabbis who have visited the Florida tomato fields to learn how workers there have wiped out slavery, and are creating some of the fairest working conditions in agriculture. In partnership with the Coalition of Immokalee Workers, our rabbis energize their communities to demand that major corporations buy tomatoes only from growers with fair food policies. We are training the next generation of rabbis to be human rights leaders. Each year, close to forty rabbinical and cantorial students studying in Israel, take part in our year-long program to introduce these students to human rights on the ground, through face-to-face visits with Palestinians, Bedouin-Israelis, African asylum seekers, and Israeli human rights leaders. Through learning and reflection seminars, students develop the skills to be powerful rabbinic leaders capable of bringing a nuanced eye to Israel.
